After successful   Completion of OFSDP-I  project from 2006 to 2016, the flagship project of Odisha Govt.  , AJY was started on 1st April 2016 in Rourkela Forest Division. From inception, this project successfully completed five financial Year. FY 2021-22 is the 6th year of project. The main objectives of the project  are

Objectives

  • To conserve and restore degraded forests through active participation of local communities .
  • To strengthen the community level institutions involved in protection of forest.
  • To empower forest dependent communities by capacity building for sustainable management of forest.
  • To improve the livelihood opportunities of the forest dependent communities through skill development and promotion of income generation activities to reduce pressure on forest.

Project Components:

A. Preparatory works involve

  • JFM area selection.
  • Community Mobilization and Institution Building.
  • Survey and Demarcation of Assigned Area and Treatment Area.
  • Capacity Building Trainings and Demonstration of Forest personnel, p-NGOs and VSS members.
  • Micro-planning.

B. Support Activities

  • Collaboration with partner NGOs in implementing Ama Jangala Yojana.
  • VSS Building for meeting, product aggregation etc.
  • Provision of  Animator for each VSS on honorarium basis
  • DMU and FMU support personnel through service provider.

C. Forest Restoration

  • ANR with gap of 200 plants over 2.5 lakh ha
  • Block plantation over 500 Ha where area for ANR is not available.

D. Support Managerial Activities

  • Operational costs
  • Mobility and travel costs
  • Office management costs.
